Theme: Merlin/Arthur
The other week I started thinking about Merlin again, a show I watched as a teenager but didn’t read any fanfiction for. Cue a nostalgia-driven decision to check some out. Today, I’ve got some Merlin/Arthur one shots with quiet moments arranged in ascending wordcount order.
Merlin is a terrible servant. He’s never been taught how to be one… so of course he gets some things wrong. Arthur doesn’t really mind. I really enjoy the quiet, oblivious care from Merlin. The switch to Arthur’s POV only makes it even more effective and meaningful. I love seeing their respective thoughts about each other, especially at this point in their relationship. It’s just very soft and good.
To say Camelot has been a culture shock is an understatement. I really like the atmosphere of Merlin and Arthur’s relationship in this fic. The way they track each other. I also enjoy the description, it’s evocative and effective. The conclusion is lovely and warm.
A gentle story about what could have happened if Merlin and Arthur had left Camelot together. I love a lot of things about this fic. The tone is very effective, the journey and development is lovely. I love the care in their actions and words. A minor point perhaps, but I really appreciate the commitment to the premise and that the two of them leaving is not the end of everything. A wonderful look into a different story.
